Despina Fragouli graduated in 2001 in Physics at the University of Crete in Greece, submitting a thesis on the“Investigation of photochemical phenomena during ablation of polymers with UV laser” in collaboration with the Foundation of Research and Technology – Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (FORTH-IESL). In 2002 she got the Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Molecular Spectroscopy, Department of Chemistry, University of Crete, submitting a thesis on “Development of Multispectral Imaging System for the in vivo recording and analysis of the kinetics of the interaction weak acids with tissue: Application on the diagnosis of cancer and pre cancer distortions” in collaboration with FORTH-IESL. In 2007 she became Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Department of Chemistry in University of Crete, Greece in collaboration with FORTH-IESL, Greece, after submitting a thesis on the “Development and application of an imaging technique for the study of organic films and substrates”. On February 2007 she became a Postdoctoral-Fellow at NNL-National Nanotechnology Laboratory, INFM-CNR in Lecce, Italy. She worked on applications dealing with smart materials responsive to external stimuli, and on in-situ nanocrystals formation in polymer matrices using alternative, non wet chemical methods. From April 2009 to April 2011 she was a Senior Postdoctoral-Fellow at the Smart Materials Lab of the Center fo Biomolecular Nanotechnologies of IIT@UniLein Lecce, Italy. Since April 2011 she is a Team Leader at the same group.
