Prof. Dr. João Honorato is a faculty member of the Department of Fundamental Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of São Paulo (IQ-USP). His research focuses on Inorganic Chemistry, with an emphasis on the development of novel metallopharmaceuticals aimed at the treatment of diseases that exhibit resistance to conventional therapies, such as cancer, malaria, and tuberculosis.

He is also highly active in crystallography, working on structural elucidation by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction of small molecules, including coordination compounds, organometallic complexes, natural products, chiral organic molecules, porous materials (MOFs), rare-earth complexes, and porphyrins.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry from the State University of Goiás (UEG) and a Teaching degree in Chemistry from the University of Franca (UNIFRAN). He obtained his MSc in Chemistry (2016) and PhD in Sciences (2020) from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), in the field of Inorganic Chemistry. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in crystallography at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC/USP) and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), focusing on electron diffraction techniques for structure determination.

He was awarded the Young Researcher Award by the Young Researchers Division of the Brazilian Chemical Society (JPSBQ), in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). He is a full member of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), the Brazilian Crystallographic Association (ABCr), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC).
