Giorgio Ernesto Bonacchini

Born in Verona in 1989, he completed a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, followed by a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, both at Politecnico di Milano. From September 2013 to May 2014, he developed his MSc thesis project supervised by Prof. Andrea C. Ferrari at the University of Cambridge within the Cambridge Graphene Centre, working on graphene saturable absorbers. 

He completed his PhD cum laude, under the supervision of Dr. Mario Caironi and Prof. Guglielmo Lanzani at the Center for Nano Science and Technology of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CNST@PoliMi). His research activities focused on the investigation of the electronic transport properties of exotic materials for organic bioelectronics, on the realization of printed edible electronic devices, and on cell-sensing platforms based on carbon nanotubes. 

After his PhD, he spent two years and a half at the Silklab (Tufts University, USA) working with Prof. Fiorenzo Omenetto, where he developed the first demonstration of microwave resonators tuned by organic electrochemical transistors, as well as investigating mass-scalable deposition techniques for silk-based functional inks. 

From July 2020, he is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Global Fellow working with Prof. Alberto Salleo at Stanford University (outgoing phase) and Dr. Mario Caironi at IIT (return phase). His EU-funded project focuses on the realization of tunable microwave photonic devices and metadevices based on organic electronic materials.
