About

Agnieszka Pierzynska-Mach studied biophysics at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University (Cracow, Poland) and graduated in 2011. Her master thesis was focused on intracellular transport and usage of low molecular weight dyes for detection lysosomes in living cells. In years 2012-2015 she completed interdisciplinary studies for PhD students "Society - Technology - Environment" (a project realized within the Human Capital Operational Programme, Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland) as well as postgraduate studies "Project management" (Cracow University of Economics, Poland) and received postgraduate diploma. In 2011-2015 she attended to a 4 year PhD programme in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology. She received PhD Degree in the field of Biophysics (with distinction) in 2017. Her PhD thesis (under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Dobrucki) concerned subnuclear localization and effectiveness of UVC-induced DNA repair in human secondary fibroblasts investigated using confocal and super-resolution microscopy.

Since December 2017 she works at the Nanophysics Department as a Post Doc. Her current research activity is focused on the use of advanced microscopy techniques and super-resolution techniques based on localization of single molecules to define the structure and organization of chromatin within the cell nucleus. She is interested in a quantitative study of the nuclear distribution of chromatin and nuclear proteins playing an architectural role, using single molecule localization techniques. She conducts the nanoscale study by using cluster analysis algorithms and DNA origami for data calibration.
