Prof. Fabio Biscarini is Full Professor of Chemistry at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) from 2013, and Principal Investigator of "Organic Neuroelectronics" reserach line at the Centre for Translational Neurophysiology of the Italian Institute of Technology in Ferrara since Nov 2019. Before, he was visiting researcher ay IIT (2017-2018) and CNR Researcher (1996-2001), Senior Scientist (2002-2010), and Research Director (2010-2013) in the Institute of Nanostructured Materials at CNR Bologna, where he headed the multidisciplinary research group "Nanotechnology of Multifunctional Materials". He was professor of nanotechnology at Alma Mater, Università di Bologna from 2004 to 2013.
Prof. Biscarini received the laurea in Industrial Chemistry cum Laude, Università di Bologna, in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Oregon (USA) in 1993. He was postdoc at CNR Bologna (1994-1995). His research interests span across diverse aspects of physical chemistry and nanotechnology of molecular materials and soft matter: from theories of liquid crystals and STM, to experimental activity in fundamentals of thin film growth, self-organization, organic electronics devices, unconventional nanofabrication, advanced characterization techniques in situ- and real time. Current interests are organic bioelectronics in vitro and in vivo, implantable devices for neurosciences and loco-regional therapies, and nanomedicine.
He authored more than 250 publications with >10000 citations and h-index 61 (source: Google Scholar). He coordinated several EU projects, including the EU-NMP Project I-ONE-FP7 on implantable organic nanoelectronics for spinal cord injury (2013-2015), the Strategic Research Project Italy Sweden"Poincaré" (2015-2017) and ERANET EuroNanoMed III - AMI (1/4/2018-31/3/2021). He was coordinator and principal investigator in 30 EU, National, and Regional projects. He was in the Editorial Board of Chemical Society Reviews (Royal Society of Chemistry, UK). He is co-inventor of 19 patents, most of them transferred to or owned by his start-up company Scriba Nanotechnology Srl (2005-). He was one of the founders of the start-up Organic Bieolectronics Srl (2019-).
