1 - Test engineer for Space Robotics
For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive engineer to play the important role of testing robot hardware and software technology for space exploration. This position has a major focus on the integration and testing of control algorithms ranging from the low-level actuators control to locomotion control of rovers.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Perform hardware prototype tests.
- Continuous improvement of the actuator's control, locomotion, and perception algorithms.
- Integrate with the team of engineers supporting day-to-day R&D and maintenance activities (debugging, testing, developing new concepts, improving robot performance).
- Produce high-quality documentation of Test procedures and Test reports
REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
- Strong skills on C++ and Python
- Hands-on experience in robotic systems
- ROS/ROS2
- Knowledge on control systems
- Experience with real-time systems
- Experience with mechatronics systems
- Knowledge on microcontrollers
- Confidence with version control tools (specifically git)
- Good communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
- Good command in spoken and written English
Further desirable but not necessary skills include good knowledge on:
- Github CI/CD
- Docker
- Agile methodology

2 - Senior mechanical engineer for Space Robotics and Teleoperation
For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive senior mechanical engineer to design and support the development of new and existing legged robots for the DLS lab centered around the INAIL Robot Teleoperativo project and space robotics projects. This position has a major focus on the design, assembly and testing of mechanical parts for custom-made legged rovers and integration into commercial legged robots.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Design and development of mechanical parts for robots and equipment.
- Continuous improvement of robot performance and robustness, analyzing test reports
- Robot maintenance, testing, and assembly of new mechanical parts.
- Integrate with the team of technicians supporting day to day R&D and maintenance activities (debugging, testing, developing new concepts, improve robot performance).
- Preparation of documentation based on client requirements
- Support the lead of the mechanical design group in management/leadership activities
REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s degree in Robotics, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years experience in industry after the Master’s degree
- Good knowledge of CAD software, modelling and drawing, preferably Siemens NX
- Good knowledge of FEA software
- Understanding of dimensional and geometrical tolerances
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, in particular CNC machining
- Experience with mechanical systems
- Experience on mechanical assembling
- Very good manual skills and affinity with lab environment
- Good communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
- Good command in spoken and written English
Further desirable but not necessary skills include good knowledge of coding with Matlab or Python.

3 - Fellow position in Software Engineering for Loco-Manipulation with Legged Robots
For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive engineer, with expertise in software and robotics, to work on the development of the software framework and control techniques for loco-manipulation. All the work activities will be carried out under the perspective of tele-operation using quadruped robots, and centered around the INAIL Robot Teleoperativo project.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:
- Software framework development
- Software integration of modules developed in the DLS lab and other project partners
- Development and improvement of algorithms to perform loco-manipulation tasks
- Extend loco-manipulation algorithms to help perform tele-operation, using quadruped robots, for disaster response scenarios.
- Perform experimental tests using the various quadruped robots of the DLS lab.
- Lead and support field tests, lab indoor experiments, and lab demonstrations.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- Experience with legged robots
- Experience with control algorithms for legged robots
- Strong skills on C++ and Python
- Strong experience with ROS, Gazebo
- Good experience with version control (Git)
- Good experience with Linux OS
- Strong knowledge on robotics
- Knowledge on system modelling
- Knowledge on classical and non-linear control theory
- Good communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
- Good command in spoken and written English
Further desirable but not necessary skills include good knowledge of Optimal Control, Model Predictive Controllers (MPC), and optimal robot motion planning.
