COMPUTATINAL SCIENCES - Introduction

Computational Sciences

The Computational Science domain develops novel machine learning methods and advances computer vision techniques to uncover patterns within cultural heritage datasets. Our research focuses on improving the detection and monitoring of cultural heritage sites and landscapes, with a particular emphasis on remote sensing imagery.

Another area of interest is the integration of computational methods with robotics, which enables the automation of digitisation processes. Through advanced reconstruction algorithms, this approach makes it possible to create accurate 3D digital twins of cultural heritage objects.

As pioneers in interdisciplinary research, we also collaborate closely with the Nanomaterials domain. In this context, we develop innovative methods to characterise the physical and chemical properties of cultural materials, using data acquired through hyperspectral imaging and microscopy.y.

8 Desktop Dell Aurora: with i9 octa-core; 32GB DDR4; 1 GPU NVDIA GTX2080Ti.
The HPC infrastructure, named “Franklin”, consists of 69 GPU-equipped nodes with a total of 280 GPUs, along with 12 CPU-only nodes. The available GPUs include NVIDIA Tesla V100 (16 GB), NVIDIA Ampere A100 (80 GB), and NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 (24 GB GDDR6)
