School Visits

To ensure a well-organized and high-quality experience, the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) does not host school visits on an individual or ad hoc basis.

IIT does not operate a visitors’ center, nor does it have spaces specifically designed for tours or educational visits. School visits therefore take place within active research environments, including real laboratories and working spaces. As a result, the normal research and operational activities of IIT personnel are temporarily interrupted during each visit.

For this reason, and in order to minimize the impact on ongoing scientific work, the number and frequency of school visits must necessarily remain limited.

Instead, IIT organizes annual events specifically dedicated to schools:

• IIT School Day
• IIT International School Day

Each event includes guided visits to or presentations of at least four research laboratories.

The dates of the School Days are published on this page. Visits are possible exclusively on these dates.

The scheduling of School Day events is carried out in timeframes that are compatible with the research activities and commitments of IIT research groups, whose work is not easily predictable or plannable far in advance.

Registrations are managed on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability. In order to encourage broad participation, a maximum of two classes per institution is allowed.

For organizational reasons, each School Day is structured in two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

In compliance with safety regulations related to space capacity, each class must be divided into subgroups of no more than 15 students.
Each subgroup must be accompanied by one chaperone. For example, classes of 20, 25, or 30 students require two chaperones.

The first IIT International School Day will take place on Monday, May 18th, 2026.
