Stefano Chiodini obtained his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Physics cum laude from the University of Bologna in 2010.
In 2012, he joined the group of Prof. Fabio Biscarini at the National Council of Research (ISMN-CNR) in Bologna, as a PhD student. His PhD work was focused on understanding the growth phenomena of organic semiconductors and its correlation to organic electronic device performances. This study was carried out by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) employing the in situ and real-time AFM technique in Ultra-High-Vacuum (UHV). He obtained the PhD degree in March 2015.
Just after obtaining his PhD degree, in August 2015, he moved to the group of Prof. Ricardo Garcia at ICMM-CSIC (Madrid, Spain) , as a post doctoral fellow, where he studied, at the atomic level, Metal-Organic Framework solid-liquid interfaces. Here, he developed substantial knowledge on atomic resolution AFM and also Multifrequency AFM techniques (Bimodal AFM) for nano-mechanical characterizations.
In 2017, he joined the PLATON group of Prof. Pilar Cea (Zaragoza, Spain) where he worked as a postdoc fellow for 2 years. Here, he was involved in the MAGIC CELL GENE project (M-ERA.net) aiming to develop a novel methodology for magnetic hyperthermia, with potential clinical applications in cell-based gene therapy. Specifically, he contributed with AFM morphological and nano-mechanical characterizations of cell membranes and their interaction with nanoparticles. Furthermore, he studied nanoscale properties of self-assembled molecular electronic devices.
Stefano joined the Vectorial Nano-imaging group of Dr. Antonio Ambrosio in July 2020, where his focus is on employing Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques to study the optical, electronic and mechanical properties of 2D materials, small-molecules and polymers.
