About

Hilaria Mollica is a PhD Student in Bionanotechnology in the Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine laboratory at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia since November 2016. Her research activities focus on the application of microfluidics and biomaterials to study the vascular transport of cells and nanoparticles and for predicting the metastatic potential of circulating tumor cells.

In October 2013, Hilaria Mollica achieved a MSc Degree in Functional Genomics at the Univesity of Trieste. She presented a thesis titled “Influence of the microenvironment during hepatic metastasis of colorectal cancer”, carrying out her training at Callerio Foundation under the supervision of Dr. Bergamo.

As soon as she completed her Master Degree, she joined the Institute for Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry”, Münster (DE), for a short-term scientific mission-COST (European cooperation in science and technology) under the supervision of Dr. Eble. Her research project was on the “Investigation of the integrin α5β1 as molecular target of the anti- metastatic metal-based compound NAMI-A in a colorectal cancer (CRC) progression model in vitro”.

Following this experience, she joined IIT to continue her training and research in microfluidics, microfabrication and organ-on-a-chip technologies.
