About

Carlo Mazzola is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Cognitive Robotics and Human-Robot Interaction at the Cognitive Architectures for Collaborative Technologies unit (CONTACT) of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). During his Ph.D., he carried out his research in collaboration between IIT (Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences unit) and the University of Genova (Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Systems Engineering) about the study and development of Shared Perception in Human-Robot Interaction. During his Ph.D. he also visited the Cognitive Robotics Lab at the School of Computer Science of the University of Manchester. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Philosophy at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano (Italy) and graduated after a research period at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal (Germany) with a thesis about the role of imagination and empathy in human perception. In 2019, he was a Visiting Scientist at IIT to explore mechanisms of social perception in Human-Robot Interaction. Currently, his research area is the study and development of social skills for human-aware and trustworthy humanoid robots within the EU-funded twinning project TERAIS, where he also leads the Work Package about “Achievement of scientific excellence”.
