The Optoelectronics Research Line at IIT in Genoa is seeking two highly motivated and talented candidates in the fields of optical spectroscopy and nanofabrication/nanodevices. The research topic targets optoelectronic properties of semiconductor and metal nanostructures, as well as of metamaterials. One particular aim focuses on tuning and modulating the emission and absorbance of fluorophores such as colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals with plasmonic nanostructures. Device fabrication includes processing by electron-beam or optical lithography, metal evaporation and atomic layer deposition, and possible applications are optical modulators, lasers, and photodetectors. Optoelectronic characterization includes time-resolved photoluminescence, spectroscopic ellipsometry, and electrical transport. The successful candidates will define their specific research program together with the group leader and have the responsibility of supervising PhD students. The highly interdisciplinary research environment at IIT provides access to a state-of-the-art clean room, electrical transport and optical spectroscopy labs, scanning probe spectroscopy, electron microscopy, computer clusters, and a nanochemistry lab. The ideal candidate will have a Phd in Physics, Materials Science or related subject with hands-on experience in optical spectroscopy and /or nanofabrication. Knowledge in computer software such as Labview and Matlab, as well as theoretical modelling by finite element methods is a plus. Fluency in English is essential. The successful candidate should have good practice with teamwork, group learning processes and a problem-solving attitude.
