Post-Doctoral position in time-resolved spectroscopy for the study of photosynthetic processes - [ Postdoc ]

Workplace: Milano, IIT@Polimi
Added on: 09/10/2018 - Expires on: 30/11/2018

Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position on time-resolved fluorescence imaging/spectroscopy, with the aim of studying the photosynthesis processes in natural and artificial systems.

This research activity will be carried out at the “Center for Nano Science and Technology” of the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Milan (Italy), in collaboration with the spectroscopy group, under the supervision of Cosimo D’Andrea and Prof. Guglielmo Lanzani.

The candidate will investigate the molecular basis of photosynthesis (e.g. photoprotective mechanisms) in algae and hybrid systems of algae enriched with photoactive molecules to enhance photosynthetic yield, by exploiting time-resolved optical spectroscopy/microscopy with emphasis on fluorescence based techniques. The candidate will also develop and improve the integration of the available microscopy and spectroscopy capabilities.

Eligible applicants are required to have a PhD either in physics, physical chemistry or a related discipline.

Proven experimental expertise in ultrafast optical spectroscopy, microscopy techniques, ultrafast laser technology, time-resolved measurements and handling of biological samples is highly desirable.

Successful candidates to this position will preferably have a track record in ultrafast spectroscopy and microscopy for biophysical studies. The successful candidate will be fluent in English.

The closing date for applications is 30th of November 2018 and applications, including a cover letter, CV and contact and names of two referees should be sent to tessa.gronchi@iit.it  quoting “Post-Doctoral position in time-resolved spectroscopy for the study of photosynthetic processes CB 74583” in the subject line.

Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.

IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies.
