Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position regarding theoretical investigations of nanoplasmonics in topological and fractal materials and innovative platforms for energy storage, transcending those based on ordinary electrochemistry. The candidate will be required to investigate collective nonlocal effects in topological and fractal materials and possibilities to store energy in solid-state systems based on arrays of two-level systems (e.g. superconducting qubits), in ways that take advantage of the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics.
This research activity will be carried out at Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa (Italy), within the Theory and Technology of 2D Materials Research Line (https://www.iit.it/it/research/lines/theory-and-technology-of-2d-materials) under the supervision of Dr. Marco Polini.
Eligible applicants are required to have a PhD in Physics. Proven expertise in theoretical condensed matter physics and quantum many-body theory will be considered an asset. Successful candidates for this position will have a significant number of publications on approaches for the many-body problem in condensed matter systems, mesoscopic physics, transport, and, most importantly, light-matter interactions at the nanoscale.
Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.
IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies.
