The iCub team (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/icub) at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral fellow to work on the topic of trajectory retargeting for our humanoid robots.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to develop methods to generate realistic movements on our humanoid robots. The task involves analyzing human movement data and developing principled methods to enact realistic human-like movements possibly under a variety of constraints (e.g. avoid obstacles, touch objects, etc.). We expect the method to stem from a principled mathematical approach that satisfies the constraints imposed by the robot mechanics as for example the overall dynamics, joint limits, speed limits, etc. and, simultaneously, allows automatic generation of feasible movements on the robot. To this purpose, machine learning and/or optimization techniques may be employed. The resulting software library will be used in a series of human-robot interaction experiments.
This research is part of a large-scale project, funded directly by IIT, that aims at developing innovative robotic technologies applied to the diagnosis and therapy of neuro-developmental disorders (NDDs), as well as to study neurotypical development. Evidence from research on neuroplasticity indicates that early diagnosis followed by appropriate intervention is critical to optimize the outcome for children suffering from many NDDs, including autism, and improve their skills and functioning in daily social environment. The theragnostic robotics program will integrate cognitive neuroscience, robotics and electronics to address the following grand challenges:
The successful candidate will be offered a salary commensurate to experience and skills.
Please apply by January 31, 2019, by sending your application to email@example.com quoting “BC75194 – GSL-1 – Postdoc on human-robot trajectory retargeting” in the e-mail subject. Your application shall contain a detailed CV, a research statement, and contact information of two reference persons.
