The Systems and Synthetic Biology Research Line is opening a Postdoctoral position in Synthesis and/or characterization of electro-catalysts.
The research activity related to the present call deals with the synthesis and/or characterization of electro-catalysts. In particular, the activity will focus on the development, optimization and test of electrocatalysts for glycolic and glucaric acids electrosynthesis (anode), and acidification of potassium oxalate (cathode).
Eligible applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Material Science Engineering, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, have excellent applied practical skills and proved experience in:
The selected candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team as post-doc junior. In particular, the candidate will be part of a H2020 project (OCEAN - Oxalic acid from CO2 using Eletrochemistry At demonstration scale – Grant Agreement n° 767798 ), dealing with “New electrochemical solutions for industrial processing, which contribute to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions”. The expected starting date is September 2018.

The Systems and Synthetic Biology Research Line is devoted to the development of new materials for a sustainable pathway to reduce CO2 emissions, to explore new energy conversion and storage methods, as well as to enforce the adoption of 3D printing for metals as a direct manufacturing process, thus enabling a cost- and resource-efficient production, and to apply a brand-new approach to cybernetic systems by means of smart colloids.
In particular, the research activity is focused on the development of:
1) materials with tailored properties for the CO2 capture and conversion to produce useful fuels/chemicals;
2) efficient energy storage systems;
3) new materials for the additive manufacturing (AM) technology known as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and the production of 3D lattice electrodes for innovative fuel cells.
Furthermore, liquid state materials are being assessed for the realization of energetic (CERESlab) and other cybernetic subsystem components including logics, locomotion and sensing.
In addition to the mentioned activities, the research line also includes the development of advanced sEMG (Electromyography) devices.
