Applications are invited for 1 Post-doctoral fellow to be involved in the “development of sustainable and biodegradable biopolymer composites”
The research activity will take place in the Smart Materials Research Line, at the central research facility of IIT in Genova, Italy. The research of the Smart materials Group deals with the development of new composite materials combining various synthetic or natural polymers and changing their properties by introducing nanofillers or organic molecules in the matrices. The main research lines of the Smart Materials Group are Green and Sustainable composites, Water Remediation, Sustainable Food packaging, Materials for Regenerative Medicine, Graphene nanocomposites, Smart composite materials for sensing, Surface engineering and adhesion, Multifunctional polymeric foams and aerogels, Smart Fabrics and Paper, Materials for Robotics, etc. Close collaborations and joint laboratories exist with industry, university departments, and other research centers in Italy and abroad.
Description of the position:
The postdoc will be involved in the production of biopolymers and biocomposites using various methods like green chemistry extraction, catalytic synthesis, etc. starting from renewable resources. The developed sustainable materials can be used and further engineered for biomedical scaffolds, packaging, durable coatings, constructions, textiles, and electronics and in all sectors where conventional plastics are currently used, minimizing the use of non-sustainable natural resources (i.e. oils) as well as the accumulation of nondegradable and toxic wastes.
The candidate will also supervise PhD students and collaborate with postdoctoral researchers of the Smart Materials Group and other IIT groups.
Requirements: The candidate must have a PhD Degree in one of the following areas: Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and at least one year of postdoctoral experience in an area relevant to polymer chemistry. An excellent record of research publications and/or patents is also essential.
