The Centre for Translational Neurophysiology of Speech and Communication (CTNSC), led by Prof. Luciano Fadiga, is opening a Researcher position involved in the Micro-ECoG project.
Job Description: We plan to investigate the brain correlates of communicative/interactive behaviors by means of (1) microelectrodes and/or electronic devices for electrocorticography (micro-ECoG), to record electrical signals directly from the cortex of human patients during neurosurgery for brain lesions, and (2) EEG, fMRI and behavioral techniques in healthy individuals. The aim of the project is twofold. First, to describe the neural activity recorded from the cortical surface in patients while they are performing communicative tasks. Second, to investigate, in healthy individuals, the potential plasticity of the neuronal mechanisms underlying others’ action perception.
In this context, and specifically to potentiate the research in neurotechnologies aimed to locally record and stimulate the brain cortex, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will work on the development of flexible electronic devices (transistors) and microelectrodes based on multifunctional materials (whole-organic, organic, hybrid organic/inorganic). Key aspects of this project will be layout design, materials processing, interfacial tailoring, patterning and integration, characterization, and assessment in vitro and in vivo.
The candidate should have a strong scientific and technological background (PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Sciences, Materials Engineering or similar), joint with an extensive experience in materials sciences, and micro- and nanofabrication; research experience on materials technology for polymers and soft matter, organic electronics, biomaterials interfaces, microscopy, spectroscopy, structural/morphological, electric and electrochemical characterization techniques, multiscale modelling, prototyping, are aspects that will be positively evaluated. The ideal candidate should be independent, proactive, suited for collaborative work in a team with senior and junior collaborators, as well as interact with other groups in international networks.
The successful candidate will work in a fully equipped laboratory in the Center for Translational Neurophysiology in Ferrara with the possibility to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, biologists and material scientists.
