Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is seeking a biologist or oncologist with a strong background in cancer studies.
The role of the selected candidate will be to focus on the application of thermo-responsive or porous silica magnetic nanoparticle platforms as drug delivery systems, heat mediators and tumor targeting in 2D and 3D in vitro studies involving cancer stem cells.
The candidate should have a medical and/or a biology degree and a PhD title on the subject of cancer. Experience in nanotechnology is also desirable. He/she should have knowledge of real time polymerase chain reactions, immunofluorescent techniques, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation methods, and in vitro cell culture on advanced models. People with previous experience in cancer stem cell research and glioblastoma tumor model studies will be considered prime candidates. Furthermore, previous involvement of the candidate in in vivo studies with inorganic nanoparticles (quantum dots, metallic nanoparticles, magnetic nanoparticles, nanotubes) may boost the research project.
The selected candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team of chemists, biologists, physicists and engineers. At the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia the selected candidate will have access to state-of-the-art chemistry and biology laboratories for material preparation, cellular culturing and characterization and several core facilities.
The candidate will work in the framework of the project Advancing glioblastoma therapy: nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia, heat-mediated drug delivery and tumor targeting, supported by the AIRC Grant 2017. (Id. 20790).
Creativity and motivation to conduct research are mandatory, as are good communication and writing skills in English.
