We are seeking candidates for one postdoctoral position in the Advanced Material Research Line at the Center for Sustainable Future Technologies (CSFT@Polito, Turin) of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), under the supervision of Prof. Fabrizio Pirri.
The scientific activity will concern the synthesis and the characterization of advanced 2D nanostructured materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides and beyond for energy storage. The materials will be employed in the fabrication of electrodes for small laboratory prototypes of flexible supercapacitors. In particular, the final objective is to develop new solutions for e-textile and for medical applications, such as wearable supercapacitors and implantable small power devices, also integrated with mechanical energy harvesters.
The candidates should demonstrate good competences in preparation techniques for 2D materials (chemical and electrochemical exfoliation, hydrothermal synthesis, CVD.), in the principal characterization techniques (Raman, XPS, SEM, AFM, TEM) and in fabrication techniques for solid-state supercapacitors. Knowledge of the electrochemical characterization techniques such as Cyclic Voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy is required.
Candidates possessing well documented experience on wire- and fiber-shaped supercapacitors, on the integration of piezo-electric harvesters to supercapacitors, on fabrication and characterization of graphene-based nanocomposites and nanocomposites with tailored physico/chemical properties (electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, ionic conductivity, etc) and on the employment of polymeric materials for the electrolyte and packaging of flexible supercapacitors will be positively evaluated.
The candidates should have a PhD in a relevant discipline such as Materials Science and Technology, Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Materials engineering.
Preferential requirements: good track list of ISI publications well-fitting with the proposed research subject and previous experience gained in worldwide reputed groups.
A good knowledge of the English language is also required.
The selection will be accomplished based on the above criteria, with the aim to cover, as much as possible, the broad range of Materials and Nanotechnologies for Energy Applications.
The starting date is expected to be February 2018.
