We are seeking applicants for one postdoctoral position in the “Diamond Lab” of the MRI Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (http://cncs.iit.it/labs/diamond) directed by Angelo Bifone and located in Rovereto (Trento), Italy.
This laboratory focuses on the development of fluorescent nanodiamonds as optical probes for the investigation of biological systems like cells and tissues. Specifically, we aim to exploit Nitrogen-Vacancy centers embedded in diamond nanostructures to detect activity-dependent magnetic fields at a cellular and subcellular resolution. To this end, the successful candidate will work on novel fluorescence stimulation and acquisition schemes and on their implementation on a microscopy set-up.
The laboratory offers state of the art equipment, including a full set-up for Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance and a dedicated fluorescence microscope with an additional microwave channel for RF manipulation of NV-centers. The successful candidate will work in an international environment, and in close collaboration with other groups working on production, characterization and functionalization of nanodiamonds.
The ideal candidate has a PhD in Physics or related discipline, proven experience in experimental optics and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. Previous experience with optical applications of fluorescent diamond is a strong plus. Fluency in English is a must.
