The “Neurobiology of miRNA” Research Line focuses on the role of miRNAs and other non-coding RNAs in mammalian neurogenesis (adult and embryonic) and brain circadian rhythms. We conduct our research by combining expertise in molecular and cellular biology, primary cultures of neurons, astrocytes and neural stem cells, animal models, genomics, imaging, behavior. Our research is performed in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary staff of IIT having strong expertise on proteomics/metabolomics, bioinformatics, material science, imaging, neuro-pharmacology and neuro-electronics. Our lab is located in the IIT Central research labs in Genoa, Italy and provides state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.
One Postdoctoral position will be available starting September 2017 to investigate the role of “microRNA dependent control of adult murine neurogenesis” in mammalian brain. In particular the project will search and validate targets of specific miRNAs that we have recently identified as essential to sustain adult neurogenesis (Pons-Espinal et al Stem Cell Reports 2017).
Ideal candidate must hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related discipline and be highly motivated and creative individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment. Candidates should have strong hands-on expertise in:
Prior experience in neuroscience is highly recommended. A good knowledge of the English language is a requisite. Successful applicants should also be willing to learn a variety of complementary techniques ranging from the transgene expression via genetic or acute manipulations (e.g., virus injection or electroporation), to genome-wide profiling and biochemistry.
