A postdoctoral position in “Decoding the noncoding side of motor neuron differentiation and pathology” will be available in the Center for Life Nanoscience  at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy) within the “Non coding RNAs in Physiology and Pathology” research line.

The research activity covers areas of science of high innovative content, representing the most advanced frontiers of modern technology, with wide application opportunities in several fields, from medicine to industry, from computer science to robotics, life sciences, and nano-biotechnology.

The project will explore:

  • The molecular basis of neuromuscular diseases.
  • The molecular mechanisms of action of ncRNAs in muscle and MN differentiation in physiological and pathological conditions.
  • The exploitation of cellular and animal model systems where to engineer the expression of ncRNAs and to study their function in vivo.
  • The use of high performance methodologies to purify and study ribonucleoprotein complexes.
  • The use of gene expression manipulation methodologies for the knock out and overexpression of lncRNAs

Ideal candidates should have a PhD in Molecular Biology; a good knowledge of both Italian and English is essential.

The position requires experience in some of the following topics:

Required competences:

  • Knowledge on basic mechanisms of gene expression control.
  • Techniques of advanced cellular, biochemical and molecular analysis for the study of cell differentiation.
  • Characterization and function of non-coding RNAs.
  • Skills in methods for the characterization of protein-RNA and RNA-RNA interactions.
  • Use of in vitro cellular systems to study muscle and MN differentiation, including mESCs and hiPSCs.

We value candidates with a proactive attitude and results-oriented mind-set, good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research team.

An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.
