Workplace: Pisa, IIT@NEST
Added on: 16/03/2020 - Expires on: 31/03/2020

Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT is opening a Post-doctoral position focusing on the synthesis via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of high-mobility large-scale graphene and its transfer on silicon photonic waveguides for the development of an optical transceiver, in the framework of the Future & Emerging Technologies on graphene and other 2D crystals, Graphene Flagship, funded by the European Commission with Grant Agreement n. 881603 for the 2020-2023 period (http://graphene-flagship.eu/).

The successful candidate will join the “2D Materials Engineering” Research Line, led by the Principal Investigator Dr. Camilla Coletti, in Pisa at the “Center for Nanotechnology Innovation” working in a multidisciplinary environment with access to the lab facilities for: the synthesis of 2D materials by chemical vapor deposition; the characterization of the structural, chemical and electronic properties of 2D materials; cleanroom facilities for device fabrication. He/she will work in strict collaboration with European institutions and companies.

The work is devoted towards the demonstration of fully integrated IQ modulator and coherent receiver where graphene is used as the active part of Si photonic circuits, which is an essential step towards the realization of graphene-based photonics.

Eligible applicants will have a PhD in Material Science, Engineering, Chemistry or Physics. Preference will be given to candidates with proven expertise in CVD synthesis of graphene. Previous experience on optoelectronic device fabrication will be considered a plus.

The closing date for applications is March 31st. Applications, including CV outlining experience and qualifications, names and contact information (e-mail, and phone number) of two referees and a cover letter should be sent to applications-graphene@iit.it quoting “Post-doc position within the Graphene Flagship SH Metrograph – CB 78331” in the subject line.

Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.
