The Center for Synaptic Neuroscience and Technology (NSYN@Unige) at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, is opening a Researcher position (up to 5 years) within the Neuroscience and Smart Materials Research Line under the supervision of prof. Fabio Benfenati.

The research project will investigate the role of transcriptional regulation of neural genes in the control of synaptic plasticity, neuron survival and network excitability. Particular attention will be devoted to the in vivo role of transcriptional regulation by the repressor REST/NRSF and its impact in higher cognitive functions and pathogenesis of central nervous system diseases. This will include development of area-specific conditional REST knockout models, generation of engineered promoter-specific AAV viral vectors to transduce with Cre-specific brain areas and in vivo testing of optogenetic devices able to switch on and off REST repressor activity.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or a similar subject and an in-depth experience in neuronal cell and molecular biology, gene editing and generation of targeted viral vectors. Experience in surgery, stereotaxic injections and optogenetics will be considered a plus.

Salary and benefits are competitive for international standards.
