Post-Doc opening in Vision-based Locomotion for Legged Robots - [ Postdoc ]

The Dynamic Legged System Research Line (DLS lab) of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), (web: is looking for a highly motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher to conduct studies on vision-based locomotion applied to legged systems and focused on real-world applications.  The DLS lab conducts world-leading research and development of legged robots for challenging environments. The candidate is also expected to (co-) tutor PhD, master and undergrad students in his/her related research area.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in legged locomotion, machine learning, vision and control theory with experience on real robots.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering, as well as an excellent Master’s degree in one of these areas
  • Strong skills on C++ and Python
  • Proven experience with ROS, Gazebo and Tensorflow
  • Experience with legged robot locomotion
  • Confidence with version control tools (specifically git)
  • Good communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

Further desirable but not necessary skills include good knowledge on pyTorch, hydraulic actuation, and OpenCV.

The salary will depend on qualifications and experience and will include additional health benefits.
