Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia - IIT offers 1 Fellow position within the Advanced Materials for Optoelectronics Research Line. The research will elucidate the photophysical properties of perovskite semiconductors (PSC). This will be achieved passing through the study of the complex defects, chemistry and physics of these materials. PSC of different dimensionalities will be synthesized, thin films will be fabricated and their physics will be elucidated as a function of their chemical and structural characteristics, as well as thin film processing. This will allow us to provide insights to guide the development of materials with optimal optoelectronic properties and improved stability. This research activity will be carried out at the “Centre for Nano Science and Technology” (CNST@PoliMi Milano).

This Fellow position is open in the framework of the European Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network SMART-X that brings 10 academic and 2 industrial beneficiaries together (GA nr. 860553).  SMART-X is a multidisciplinary and intersectorial network aiming at the training of scientists who will bring X-ray ultrafast spectroscopy beyond the current state of the art as a standard technique for investigation in crucial sectors of material science, with a particular emphasis on the investigation of charge carrier dynamics in materials relevant for novel energy supply and storage. 15 doctoral researchers/PhDs employed by SMART-X will have an opportunity to develop their skills in a broad area while involved in cross sector excellent research. The doctoral researchers will be trained in (i) science and technology across physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, (ii) exploitation from laboratory to fabrication; (iii) transferable skills of communication, information technology, organization, planning, teamwork, leadership; (iv) skills needed for innovation, such as understanding markets, business models, return on investment.

If not enrolled yet, the ESR will be enrolled in the Doctoral Physics School of Politecnico di Milano. During the programme, each early career researcher (ESR) will undertake 2-3 secondments, each lasting 2 months or more.

We are looking for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) to be appointed at the host organisations within SMART-X.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme offers highly competitive and attractive salaries. Gross and net amounts are subject to country-specific deductions as well as individual factors and will be confirmed upon appointment.


  • University degree in Physics or Chemistry or Material Science or related Engineering disciplines (Applicant cannot hold a PhD degree obtained previously);
  • Fluency in spoken and written English;
  • Willingness to travel around Europe..


  • The applicant shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years of his/her research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. (This time is measured from the date of award/diploma of the most recent taught degree.)
  • The applicant must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host institute for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.
  • The applicant can be of any nationality.
