In the RNA Systems Biology Lab Research Line (activities starting in 2020), we combine computational and experimental work to unravel protein interactions with coding and non-coding RNAs. As a large number of proteins have the ability to interact with RNA, we strive to understand what are their targets and contacting regions. To this aim, we develop algorithms for high-throughput predictions of protein-RNA interactions and test them.

We are looking for a talented experimental researcher that will work on projects aiming to understand ribonucleoprotein architectures involved in post-transcriptional mechanisms.

The discovery of RNA networks regulating proteins will provide a framework to understand molecular determinants of the switch between pluripotency and differentiation as well as human disorders including Parkinson’s disease, Fragile X–Associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome and Neuronal Intranuclear Hyaline Inclusion Disease.

Essential skills:

  • Riboimmunoprecipitation (RIP) assay, RNA Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (REMSA), CLIP (cross-linking and immunoprecipitation); Preparation of samples for high-throughput sequencing.
  • Capture hybridization analysis of RNA targets (CHART) and protoarrays would be considered as a plus.

Additionally, the researcher will be key in several aspects, including:

  • Identifying mid and long-term projects/goals/interests and the means of achieving them.
  • Implementing the actions required to ensure that strategic goals are met (strategic collaborations to position the lab to most effectively accomplish its mission)
  • Defining the lab's competencies and align activities/projects to get the maximum benefits of these competencies. 
  • Establishing a coherent identity between the computational and the experimental part of the lab. 
  • Identifying the needs and views of current and potential members of the lab to create and prioritize effective strategies for lab members’ engagement.
  • Facilitating an environment conducive to building and maintaining effective working relationships among lab members.

Professional requirements necessary to apply for the position:

- a PhD in Chemistry or Molecular Biology;

- previous experience with protein-RNA experiments and RNA biology;
