Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position in Photoelectrochemistry in the framework of the ERC Project “Light Induced Cell modulation by Exogenous Organic Semiconductors, LINCE” GA Number 803621, focused on the development of light sensitive devices for optical modulation of cellular activity. This research activity will be carried out at the “Center for Nano Science and Technology” (CNST@PoliMi Milano).

The candidate will study the photochemical and photophysical processes occurring at the interface between organic semiconductors and in vitro living cells, and he/she will design, fabricate and optimize device architectures based on conjugated polymers, with the final goal to optically regulate the activity of different models of living cells, from their genesis to proliferation, from differentiation to specific functions. He/she will work in a highly multidisciplinary research team, comprising material scientists, physicists, engineers, biologists and biotechnologists, and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities for devices fabrication and characterization.


  • PhD Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering (Energy, Physics, Chemistry, Materials, Electronics) or related fields;
  • Documented knowledge and expertise in physical chemistry and redox photochemistry;
  • Strong experience and documented lab expertise in photo-electrochemical characterization of materials and devices (use of three electrodes cells, cyclic voltammetry, spectroelectrochemistry, potentiostatic/galvanostatic measurements, impedance spectroscopy);
  • Knowledge of organic devices physics and technology; fabrication and characterization techniques of optoelectronics devices based on conducting and semiconducting polymers;
  • Strong communication and English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Marked aptitude to work in team.

Will be considered a plus a documented expertise in:

  • Optical spectroscopy methods;
  • Scanning Electron and Atomic Force microscopy;
  • Fluorescence and confocal microscopy;
  • Characterization techniques of hybrid interfaces between conjugated polymers and aqueous electrolytes;
  • Basic knowledge of cell physiology and electrophysiology.
