The Smart Bio-Interfaces Research Line (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/smart-bio-interfaces) is opening one Junior Fellow position, in the framework of the ERC proof-of-concept grant BBBhybrid, on advanced biological barriers modelling.
The Smart Bio-Interfaces research line, led by Prof. Gianni Ciofani, is active in the field of smart nanomaterials for nanomedicine, bio/non-bio interactions, and biology in altered gravity conditions, and it is located at the Center for Micro-BioRobotics (CMBR, Pontedera, Pisa). CMBR has fully equipped chemical, biological and microfabrication facilities, including clean rooms (class 1000 and class 10000), chemical laboratories, BSL2 biological laboratories, and equipment for molecular biology.
The candidate will work on the ERC granted project BBBhybrid (Advanced in vitro physiological models: Towards real-scale, biomimetic and biohybrid barriers-on-a-chip, EU contract number 832045), aiming at developing innovative models of biological barriers.
The selected candidate will be expected to have strong expertise in micro/nanofabrication techniques for the preparation of microfluidic systems for biological investigations, in particular related to models of the blood-brain-barrier.
Applicants must be at their last year of PhD.
PhD course in one of the following areas will be considered: bioengineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology or related fields.
Experiences with microfabrication tools, confocal microscopy, and in vitro cell cultures are mandatory. Experience in blood-brain barrier-related research will be favourably evaluated. High level of English, both spoken and written, is an essential requirement.
Interested candidates should send their application (CV, list of publications, name and contacts of 2 referees) to firstname.lastname@example.org and to email@example.com by July 16, 2019 quoting “1 Junior Fellow Smart Bio-Interfaces - CB 77136”in the subject line.
