The Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies (CBN), an IIT Network Center based in Arnesano, Lecce, is opening 1 Postdoctoral position in the area of “Physics-based New Technologies for Neuroscience Research”, related to the FET OPEN Grant NANO-BRIGHT GA Nr.828972 (PIs Prof. Massimo De Vittorio, Dr. Ferruccio Pisanello and Dr. Cristian Ciracì).

The main objective of this research line is to develop advanced plasmonic-based neural endoscopes to study and treat pathological states of the brain. Ad hoc plasmonic structures will be embedded on a tapered fiber probe for spatial-resolved SERS endoscopy.

The selected candidate will be integrated in a highly interdisciplinary environment in a young and highly motivated research group, working in state-of-the-art facilities. He/she will participate in the development of new all-optical neural interfaces, with a particular focus on the analysis of electromagnetic properties and numerical design of nano-optics elements.

Highly motivated and talented candidates with backgrounds in photonics, plasmonics and optics are invited to apply for the advertised position. We are looking for a scientist with the following competences/skills:

  • Experience in numerical design and development of photonics devices (Fiber Optics-based devices, Plasmonics, Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy)
  • Experience in using frequency and/or time-domain simulation methods and related software, including COMSOL Multiphysics
  • PhD in physics, nanotechnologies, biophysics, photonics, engineering or related areas.
  • Proven track record of publications in the relevant technical areas and projects.

All the above competences/skills are desirable although not mandatory. Strong organizational skills, creativity, motivation and communication skills (oral and written) are highly required. Finally, proficiency in English is essential.

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience and include additional health benefits.
