Post-doctoral position in Neuroscience and Behaviour - [ Postdoc ]

Workplace: Roma, IIT@SAPIENZA
Added on: 16/05/2019 - Expires on: 30/06/2020

The Neuroscience and Behaviour Research Line led by Prof. Giandomenico Iannetti is opening a Post-doctoral position for studying the detection of sudden and unexpected sensory events that drive immediate motor behaviour. The successful candidate will be developing experimental paradigms and analytical methods that allow the investigation of the neural responses to such events. The candidate will be investigating the supramodal brain system underlying these responses and contrasting it to canonical sensory processing systems (i.e. primary sensory cortices).

The laboratory uses psychophysical and neurophysiological approaches to conduct experiments that investigate fundamental questions about human perception and behaviour. For a full publication list please see, and The laboratory is based at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT, in Rome), it benefits from a strong collaboration with University College London (UCL), and it is composed by a truly international team of researchers with complementary expertise in this field, from neurophysiology to cognitive science and computational modelling. In addition, there is the possibility of collaborating with groups studying similar neurophysiological signals in sleeping humans. Therefore, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in an exciting scientific environment.

The candidate should have a strong publication record in systems neuroscience and a keen desire in developing analytical approaches and experimental designs to investigate the physiology of electrocortical brain signals. Specific expertise in electrophysiology and/or psychophysics, as well as in the analysis of sleep graphoelements are particularly welcome. Strong analytical skills and coding abilities are highly desirable. The ideal candidate should be very independent and proactive, and suited for collaborative work in a team with senior and junior collaborators, as well as interact with other groups in international networks.

Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.
