SSSA Calls for the admission to PhD Programmes 2010-2011

The International School of Doctorate on Innovative Technologies at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), offers a three-year residential Ph.D. programme with highly interdisciplinary connotation, where students can specialise in four major areas of the Graduate School of Engineering, namely:

  • Bio-Robotics, including micro-engineering, biomedical engineering, biomimetic robotics, rehabilitation technologies and computer assisted surgery.
  • Embedded Systems, with emphasis on real-time systems and resource management.
  • Perceptual Robotics, with emphasis on telerobotics, cognitive robotics and virtual environments.
  • Telecommunications, especially referring to networks and photonic technologies.

Admitted students are requested to take 4 courses in the first year and 2 courses in the second year, and to pass the relative exams in order to proceed with the Ph.D. programme. The third year of the programme is fully devoted to research in one of the four general areas listed above. Within the framework of the Ph.D. programme, mandatory attendance of lectures, research activities, possibilities for summer schools and periods abroad "coexist" in a harmonised and balanced way.
