Bio

Irene Sardellitti received in 2004 her M. S. degree in Biomedical Engineering (cum laude) from Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and the Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering from Scuola Superiore Sant Anna of Pisa in May 2008 with thesis title “Actuation analysis and control for Human-friendly robotic manipulators” supervised by M.C. Carrozza and O. Khatib.

In January 2005, Irene joined the Advanced Robotic Technology and System (ARTS ) Laboratories from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. In June 2006, she joined, as visiting student, the Stanford Robotics Laboratory where she pursued her research for two years. Since July 2008, Irene holds a postdoctoral position at the Italian Institute of Technology of Genoa.

Her research
interests include human-friendly robotics, safety analysis and control strategies for compliant and antagonistic actuation. She is mainly focused on simultaneous design of actuation system and control strategy for optimizing robot performance without compromising with the robot safe behavior. She is interested in control strategies for both electric and pneumatic actuation. Her research includes the analysis and control of pneumatic valve technology as well as pneumatic muscle actuators for robotic and automotive applications. She is involved in the development of driver-boards for compact smart actuators. She is interested in technology transfer to industry.

She was co-organizer of :
the Workshop for Young Researchers on Human Friendly Robotics 2008, Naples, Italy.
the Workshop for Young Researchers on Human Friendly Robotics 2009, Sestri Levante, Italy.
