Kinesthetic Studies: Path integration
Projects
simulatorIt is well known that movement is perceived by a multi modal system that uses visual, kinesthetic, tactile and vestibular cues, among others. What it has not been yet very well understood is the role that each sense is playing in this system. The visual part is clearly one of the most important: it has been shown that it can easily confuse the other senses if the information between them is not coherent.
The main activities dealing with the platform turn around the evaluation of the spherical platform as a tool for vestibular perception and path integration research. In this sense calibration tests have been performed in order to find the real characteristics of the platform's mechanical behavior. Then, human threshold detection activities have been performed and finally a theoretical and empirical model and simulator of the platform were developed.

These models are a tool to evaluate new motion profiles before testing them on the real platform and together with perception thresholds will be used to perform accurate dynamic or static vestibular perception experiments.
