Bruno Bonino got his degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa in 1976. He then joined Ansaldo as Researcher in the Laboratory of the Research and Development Division where he realized his doctoral thesis. In this position he worked on hardware, firmware and software for MIG17, the first Italian microcomputer for industrial automation. He developed the Disk Operating System for the MIG17 using both 8” floppy disk and then 5.25” hard disk, improving his knowledge about interfacing and systems design. Then he joined the Esacontrol in the Network Division where worked on the development of different projects of industrial automation based on Zilog and Digital Equipment J11 microprocessors.
He then partecipated, as a system engineer, to the limited group of people selecting the strategic biomedical designs for the new firm Esacontrol Biomedicale later become Esaote. In 1982 he founded the Micro design s.r.l., an indipendent firm, focalized to design hardware boards and to develop firmware and software for industrial control. During the last 30 years he held the position of Chief Executive working on many projects for big customers like Ansaldo, Esaote, Elsag, Pie medical, Autostrada dei Fiori, University of Genoa, ranging from remote data acquisition, control, mail displacement, fleet management, biomedical imaging, geological sensors, trolley bus, industrial and humanoid robotics, motor control, mechanical devices.
He also taught Systems and Automation for 6 years and Electronics in several post diploma courses.
After 6 years as a consultant currently he has a Technologist position at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) to organize and manage the Electronic Laboratory of the Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Science department. This Laboratory will have not only to study new technologies, interfaces, products and sensors, and to design, produce and test electronic boards at professional level, but also will have to transfer to young researchers the industrial and professional methods and techniques of electronic design and documentation..
