Bio

 

I have a consolidate experience in organic chemistry and synthesis coming both from the academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Besides this I have also acquired a basic experience in Medicinal Chemistry and structure activity relationship. I am co-author of 10 papers published in peer-reviewed journals

01/05/2010-Present

I joined the Drug Discovery and Development (D3) of Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Genova), under the supervision of Dr. Tiziano Bandiera working in the Medicinal chemistry team with the aim to discover and develop new medicines in the CNS area.



11/02/2008-31/12/2009

I joined the Preparative Organic Chemistry Group of Nerviano Medical Sciences s.r.l. (former Pharmacia/Pfizer Discovery Research Oncology), under the supervision of Dr. Carlo Battistini and Dr. Daniele Donati.

My main focus was to study suitable synthesis for the scale up of key intermediates or lead compounds (up to 100 g batches scale) to support the other Medicinal Chemistry groups.

 

2007-31/01/2008

Research Project contract with Nerviano Medical Sciences s.r.l., Medicinal Chemistry Department, working on the lead optimization of new kinases inhibitors with promising antitumoral activities (Supervisor: Dr. Mauro Angiolini).

Within the same period I spent also 5 months at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan, focused on the synthesis of heterocycles by cycloaddition reactions (Supervisor: Prof. Piero Dalla Croce).

I attained to more than 300 hours of specific lessons given both by the staff of the University of Milan and NMS. These lessons were focused mainly on the drug discovery process in the modern pharmaceutical industry.

 

2004-2006 PhD Student in Chemical Sciences XIX cycle at the chemistry department “G. Ciamician” of Bologna’s University.

Title of PhD thesis: “Asymmetric synthesis of 1,n diamines”. Supervisor: Prof. Diego Savoia.

During my PhD I investigated the addition of organometallic reagents to chiral imines and 1,2-bis-imines derived from glyoxal. We found that these compounds are versatile intermediates for the synthesis of substituted and/or bridged azaheterocycles by, for example, ring closing metathesis or iodine mediated cyclizations reactions.

 

2003 Qualification to practice chemical profession.

 

2002-2003 10 months grant in a research project in collaboration with Farmabios S.p.A (Pavia) for the study, synthesis and characterization of new products with pharmacological activity (cephalosporins and steroids mainly).

 

1996-2002 UNIVERSITA’ DEGLI STUDI DI BOLOGNA, Bologna (Italy).

Degree in Chemistry.

First class degree (110 /110).

Title of thesis: “Regioselectivity and stereoselectivity in the synthesis of 4,5-diamino-1,7-octadienes” Supervisor: Prof. D. Savoia; Prof. E. Tagliavini.
