Postdoctoral position in computational neurotechnologies

BC: 67906

We invite applications for a two-year postdoctoral position focusing on the development and application of innovative configurations for in utero electroporation to achieve genetic manipulations in vivo. We aim at improving the capacity to properly address the electric field to relevant neurogenic areas by means of an electrical-model-driven design of the electroporation apparatus.

The project is moving on the line of recent technical developments (Dal Maschio et al., Nature Communications, 2012), and it will be carried out in collaboration between the Department of Nanostructures, the Department of Neuroscience and Brain Technologies, and the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation (IIT@NEST) of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT). Applicants should be able both to face the computational aspects related to the modeling of the dielectric properties of the system under investigation and to define the proper optimization of the configuration according to the designed experimental protocol, which is required before moving to the final device fabrication.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics, engineering or related disciplines. We expect previous experience with modeling platforms (e.g., COMSOL or Lumerical). Furthermore, skills in micro-fabrication would be considered an advantageous remark. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal relation skills and must be willing to join a highly multidisciplinary team.

Postdoc in Nanobiotechnology/Biophysics

Budget code 67789

The Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia - IIT - was founded with the objective of promoting the country's technological development and further education in science and technology. The research areas cover scientific topics of high innovative content, which represent the most advanced frontiers of modern technology, with wide application possibilities in various fields ranging from medicine to industry, from computer science to robotics, life sciences, and nanobiotechnology.

The Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) invites for applications in the topic of "Anodic porous alumina based active substrates for cell status assessment". Anodic porous alumina (APA) is a nanostructured form of biocompatible aluminium oxide, fabricated by electrochemical route, which is potentially useful for permanent implants in both orthopedics and dentistry. Application of APA as a substrate for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been recently demonstrated. Here we propose a novel combination of APA as SERS sensor surface and cell seeding substrate, as well. Attachment, adhesion and growth of living cells on patterned APA substrates will be investigated and their interactions with the selected pharmacological drugs/metal nanoparticles will be assessed. The idea behind the work is to develop a surface capable of both driving and sensing the cell behavior, to be potentially used in future biomedical assays.
