The Department of Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences (RBCS) at the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is seeking a technician to develop audio-tactile portable rehabilitative devices for children and adults with visual disabilities within the context of the EU funded project ABBI.
The main device to achieve this objective is the Audio Bracelet for Blind Interactions (ABBI) that will generate sounds and/or tactile stimuli triggered by body movements. The system will be based on portable devices designed by the RBCS department as part of the ABBI project (http://www.abbiproject.eu/) and mobile devices (smart phones). The project includes work on motion sensors, wireless communication, sound synthesis, tactile stimulation, and indoors-localization.
The job will consist in writing and documenting the software (firmware and client applications) for the hardware that will be developed as part of the project. To that end, the candidate will have to work in close collaboration with the Electronics Design Laboratory (EDL) of the RBCS Department.
The candidate should have a MS or PhD in Engineering, good programming skills (C/C++ required) not only for high level but also for low level programming of custom boards designed in RBCS.

In the motivation letter, the applicant should explicit previous relevant experience such as experience with firmware/hardware development, motion sensors, wireless communication, sound synthesis, tactile stimulation, indoors-localization and/or mobile computing.
The contract is funded by an FP7 grant under the Objective ICT-2013.5.3 "ICT for smart and personalised inclusion"..
