The new drug delivery system of NEST Laboratory and the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation of IIT@Nest

The study conducted by a group of researchers of the NEST Laboratory and the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation of IIT@Nest in Pisa was awarded of the prestigious frontispiece of the international journal SMALL. The study deals with the developing of a new drug delivery and controlled release system of active agents based on gold nanostructures. This innovative nano-material exploits a multi-photon effect observed for the first time in the laboratories, which makes possible the release of biomolecules with common continuous low-power lasers at wavelengths close to the "optical window" in the visible range. This pioneering study provides an important achievement towards the development of a new class of promising anticancer and therapeutic agents. For more details, read the following link"

London Science Museum: iCub meets people at Robotville

During the four day event "Robotville", starting on 1st December at the Science Museum in London, people will meet the humanoid robot iCub and some of its authors: Giorgio Metta, Lorenzo Natale and Francesco Nori, researchers at the Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department of IIT.

"Robotville" is the festival of robots conceived to celebrate the most cutting-edge in European robot design and innovation and to explore the cultural significance of robots. iCub will be present at the event as example of Italian robotics excellence.

IIT researchers will show the cognitive abilities of iCub everyday from Thursday 1st December to Sunday 4th December, from 10 am to 6 pm. Entrance is free.

The event is promoted by EUNIC London, in partnership with the EU Cognitive Systems and Robotics Programme and the European Commission Representation in the UK. For more information about the festival please visit: http://sciencemuseum.org.uk/robotville
