Labs

The main aims of NBT research are pursued by a number of laboratories each with its own specificities and investigation tools that could be assembled in four main interdisciplinary fields of research, namely: Cellular Neurophysiology, Molecular Neurobiology, Neurotechnologies and Behavioural Neuroscience.

Cellular Neurophysiology

The focus of the research is the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity, starting from individual synapses to synaptic circuits up to brain diseases.

Molecular Neurobiology

The Neurobiology group studies the mechanisms underlying neural development formation of synaptic connections and remodelling of the neural connectivity with focus on modulation of neurotransmitter release machinery, the functional characterization of key synaptic proteins and of the roadmap of signal transduction and protein phosphorylation.

Neurotechnologies

The activities of the Neurotechnology group are at the intersection between neuroscience and engineering. Interdisciplinary competences are converged for developing and validating innovative solutions and instruments for both fundamental and applied neuroscience

Behavioral Neuroscience

The Behavioral Neuroscience Group investigates the dynamic interplay between genes, synaptic correlates and behavior. In particular, we study how genetic and epigenetic mechanisms affect behaviour through different sleep/wake states.
