Bio

Daniela Pizzirani was educated at the University of Bologna (Italy) where she graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology in 2002.
She received her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the same Institution in 2006 under the supervision of Prof Marinella Roberti, working on the design and synthesis of two combinatorial libraries of stilbene-based compounds with the aim of identifying novel potential anti-tumor lead candidates or promising chemical tools to study and modulate apoptosis and differentiation in different lines of cancer cells.
As a part of her PhD program, Daniela spent 10 months in 2005 as visiting scientist in the laboratory of Prof. Stuart L. Schreiber, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Harvard University, Cambridge MA (USA), working on 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions and Cu-catalyzed alkyne-azide reactions leading to the synthesis of natural product-like macrocycles.
In 2007, Dr. Pizzirani joined the group of Prof Schreiber as Post-doctoral Fellow and her research project focused on the development of a novel diversity-oriented synthesis (DOS) pathway to generate skeletally diverse heterocyclic scaffolds displaying comprehensive stereochemical diversity, starting from functionalized amino propargylic alcohols.
During this period, Dr. Pizzirani also worked on a project in collaboration with the group of Prof. J. Porco, Department of Chemistry, Boston University, focused on the identification of novel chemical transformations of amino propargylic alcohols in the presence of different transition metal catalysts and a variety of reaction partners.
Dr. Pizzirani joined the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in March 2010 as Senior Post-doctoral Associate in the Drug Discovery and Development Department.
