Tasks
The Board ensures the excellence of the Foundation and regulates the use and allocation of resources. More specifically, it proposes strategic and operative policies, approves long-term work programmes, decides general regulations and evaluates work results. It may consist of committees, whose meetings may also include external members who are not part of the Board.
Composition
The Board is formed initially by three members, who are appointed by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy and Finances, and the Minister of Education, University and Research. The Board in turn chooses 12 more members, among people who adhere to requirement criteria including independence, personal integrity and high professionalism, and are active in economics, science, or public welfare.
Board members will normally hold office for a 4-year term, but initially will hold office for a shorter period, in order to ensure an appropriate turnover. Members can only be reappointed once.
After the first appointment, the Board itself decides on possible reappointments and new appointments.
Three more honorary members, not entitled to vote, can be part of the Board. Board members cannot take part in other bodies or operative facilities of the Foundation.
