Postdoctoral position in Structural Biophysics - [ Postdoc ]

Workplace: Genova, IIT
Added on: 26/10/2017 - Expires on: 23/11/2017

A post-doctoral position in structural biophysics will be available starting January 2018 within the D3 Compunet Research line led by Prof. Andrea Cavalli, at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.

The open position is for experienced structural biophysicists/biologists with extensive hands-on research experience in expression and purification of recombinant proteins from different host cells (bacteria, mammalian cells, yeast, etc.) and significant experience with various protein purification methods. The position requires a marked interest in implementing a vast variety of complementary biophysical approaches and familiarity with at least some of the following biophysical techniques for protein structural and functional characterization as well as for investigations of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions: Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC), Microscale Thermophoresis (MST), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), cryo- electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography.

The successful candidate will play relevant roles in several drug discovery projects through the investigation of the structure-function relationships of proteins belonging to pathways relevant to specific human diseases. The final goal is to understand disease mechanisms by providing insights into the function and dysfunction of proteins and design new therapeutic strategies though the identification and characterization of the activity of small molecule inhibitors of relevant pathological targets. Within these projects, she/he must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment in close contact with both computational and experimental researchers. She/he must also tutor junior PhD and master students.

The ideal candidate must possess a PhD in physical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related disciplines with at least three years of postdoctoral experience, being outstanding and highly-motivated scientists with strong records of research productivity. Previous experience in protein crystallization and X-ray data collection will be particularly valued.

Excellent English communication skills, creativity and marked enthusiasm for research are mandatory.

Salary and benefits will be in line with international standards.

The closing date for applications is November 23, 2017. Please send your application, including your CV and names of 2 referees, to panagiota.dimopoulou@iit.it quoting “Postdoctoral position Structural Biophysics CB 74401” in the subject line.
